Shane groomed all trails today - with a light touch.  The snow is deep and it is very challenging to pull one of the heavy grooming devices with the snow machine, so he was not able to set classic track.  Your volunteers will continue to keep the trails in good shape.  John plans to head out tomorrow morning to set classic track.  As always, join and support the Girdwood Nordic Ski Club....

Shane and Marc groomed all of Glacier Valley's groomable Nordic trails this afternoon.  Marc concentrated on the Moose Meadow, connector trails and the Upper Meadows.  Shane put a nice finish on the 5K Nordic Loop.  There was a mechanical problem with the track setter so there are no set classic tracks on any of the trails.  With this great winter we've got going on, there are many skiing opportunities available to all skiers.  Go out and enjoy this wonderful snow....

John had an interesting day grooming Meadows and the 5K Nordic Loop.  Lots of powder coming out of the sky.  He was able to get a fresh groom for the Four Valley's Community School young people's ski program in the Moose Meadow, but by the time the kiddos made it out to the trail they were breaking trail.  After John worked, Shane went out to do some additional grooming in challenging conditions.  Please remember, the grooming program is a partnership between the Municipality of Anchorage Parks and Rec and the Girdwood Nordic Ski Club.  It is a strictly volunteer operation.  Give these guys a hand!...

John spiffed up the Moose Meadow, connector trails and Upper Meadow trails.  And, he added classic track to all!  Enjoy winter, and remember to join and support the Girdwood Nordic Ski Club....

The Moose Meadow, connector trails, Upper Meadows and the 5K Nordic Loop have all been groomed within the last 24 hours.  Classic tracks were set on the 5K Nordic Loop.  Enjoy this great snow!...

Kyle made a number of laps around the Moose Meadow this afternoon, putting down some new corduroy.  The trail is still a little soft, but should be great skiing, or walking, or dog walking, or winter biking.  He was just getting ready to do some tree clearing from the trail at the top of Horror Hill when we spoke this afternoon.  Hopefully, the trees will be removed and the infamous Horror Hill will be completely skiable. It should be great skiing in the meadows today and tomorrow.  Stay safe out there....

The 5K Nordic Loop has been "track packed", that is, a snow machine has been driven around the loop several times to firm it up a bit.  The 1K, short loop was dragged to put a little corduroy on the snow, but the rest of the trail is still pretty much snow covered.  The trail should be excellent for classic skis (no set classic tracks), and touring gear.  The snow is falling, so go out and enjoy winter! Don't forget, the Girdwood Nordic Ski Club and the Girdwood Brewery have teamed up for a weekly ski outing.  This week at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, January 22 we'll meet at the Arlberg parking lot.  After a bit of skiing, structured, or "you're on your own" if you like, folks are invited to the Girdwood Brewery for some fun conversation and maybe a libation. Click community event on right!...

Over night, we had a significant snowfall in Girdwood.  An attempt to groom the lower portion of the 5K Nordic Loop was made this morning.  There is so much powder that the groomer could barely get through it.  That means there are no groomed trails in Girdwood valley, except for Alyeska Resort today....

Thank you Girdwood Groomers! Everything is freshly combed: All connectors, Moose Meadow, 5k, and the upper meadows. Tracks set on Arlberg bike path and upper meadow loop. Come out and cross country ski and keep the trails clean: Pick up after your pups. Support Girdwood Nordic Ski Club by becoming a member today! Click on our +Join button. Temps are forecasted to increase, being winter-pleasant for the extended weekend. It's another beautiful day in Girdwood Valley....

5K spiffed up except for tracks to 1K cutoff.  Should ski pretty well for evening Community ski and get together in conjunction with Girdwood Brewery. Moose meadow groomed and connector trails as well. Upper Meadow  Loop widened. Groomers had to take 5 this afternoon to enjoy the sun shining into the upper valley loop as they looked across the arm to the Kenai Mountains. Sunshine! Beautiful. pz...

This morning Jim went out and worked on the Moose Meadow and connecting trails to 5 K parking lot. This afternoon Adam  spiffed  up the 5 K.  Later Marc went out to widen upper meadow loop and widen the infield area adjacent to 5 K parking area. The Girdwood Grizzlies were out training today on the 5 K. Go Grizzlies!  All trails looking good! Don't MISS our Wednesday Night Community Ski! Be there @ 6:00 PM. Join your neighbors! pz...

We spent most of the day getting snow machines functioning in the cool temps - -8 at the trailhead at 4:30 pm.  The 5K Nordic Loop is freshly groomed with set classic track.  Shane made a couple of passes around the Moose Meadow before taking the machine to a warm place for repairs.  Dress warmly - it is very chilly....

Groomers were out today and widened trails between Church and 5K  parking Lot. Also got a groom and tracks on 5 K.  Upper Meadow loop widened. A partial groom was done from Soccer Field through lower Moose Meadow. Groomers will be out again soon to get the whole Moose Meadow Loop widened as well. We still need more snow cover to really smooth trails. There are some thin, wet spots in all the meadows so ski with caution and look for hazards. Around the church there are some rough spots and vegetation narrowing the trail. We have a great start on getting all of the traditionally groomed trails up and skiable. The 5K Nordic Loop was groomed this morning.  Classic track was set.  It's cold out there, but the skiing is very good.  Peter is out now, grooming the Upper Meadows.  That makes for more skiing options!  Have a great day out there....

After many rounds on 5 K for compaction, groomers put a smooth finish on it before wrapping up today. Surface is still soft and classic skis are still recommended. Tim came out to put in both Upper Valley Loop and the connector to the church in with a snowmobile track groom. We will continue to work towards getting all valley trails packed in as conditions allow. Winter has finally come ! Get out and enjoy it .pz...

Too much snow this AM but Tim went out this afternoon with his personal machine. Eric from Alyeska showed up with an aly machine and helped out too. We now have a soft tracked surface suitable for classic skiing. A little too powdery for skate skiing as of now. We will be working hard towards firming up the 5 K, and moving towards other trails as time allows. Probably Upper Meadow loop is most likely to be next on our list. Thanks to all the folks involved today getting our great powder snow firmed up and heading back to being a ski trail. Shane, Tim and Eric!  Happy new year!  ...

Warm, wet weather has brought a temporary halt to grooming operations, but we've groomed the 5K Nordic Loop several times in the last few days.  The trail is VERY MUSHY today.  Skiing may damage the surface, so please avoid the trail until it firms up.  Also, since we are into the Winter grooming season, dogs, snowshoes, bikes and walking on the SKI ONLY 5K trail are not permitted....

Yesterday and last night's snowfall made it possible to open the whole loop of the 5 K trail. It skied nicely today,  however is a bit thin in spots. More snow in the forecast! Currently Moose Meadow and connecting trails to upper valley loop are still short  of snow to groom without harming underlying  vegetation. We will be looking at expanding our trails as snowfall allows. Get out there and enjoy WINTER! pz  ...
