The trails are ready for your gliding skis and staggered celebration. Join GNSC in spirit and in person around the shortest day of the year. The 1.6 K loop will be beautifully lit tonight, December 21st from 5-9 PM. Come ski the loop alone or with friends. To keep the congregating to a minimum we will not have a fire pit or refreshments, but encourage everyone to come ski at their own pace and see the lights on the shortest day of the year. The trails are in and the skiing is great in Girdwood!...

Help save the UAA ski team!  Click here to learn and donate: What is a 314er ? SAVE the UAA Ski Team On September 10, 2020, UA Regents voted to eliminate more than half the funding for the UAA ski team, and discontinue Alpine skiing events. To save our sport, preserve the Alpine events, and field a complete team, the UA Regents and UAA Chancellor are asking us to raise two years of operating costs. A total of $628,000 dollars. Exactly half, $314,000 of the total, needs to be delivered in cash.  The second $314K can be in pledges. We can achieve this.  Become a 314er today and support a Whole UAA Ski Team. NCAA college skiing is in trouble. Lost programs at New Mexico, Nevada, Whitman, Western State College, Brown, and others are the sad reality of institutions successfully amputating Olympic sports. The UAA Chancellor and the UA Board of Regents gutted the UAA ski team’s budget, offering to keep a Nordic-only grouping that can never be competitive in its quest for a National Championship. UAA is now the canary in the coal mine. One domino left teetering, and our toppling could take down the entire Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association. Once the RMISA is gone, the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association is soon to follow. If you care about collegiate Olympic sports, Skiing in particular, you need to care about saving the UAA Ski Team. There is hope. We have a pathway forward, and we need your help. To save our sport, and add Alpine back to our team, the UA Regents and UAA Chancellor are asking us to raise two years of operating costs. A total of $628,000 dollars by Feb 1st, 2021. Exactly half, $314,000 of the total, needs to be delivered in cash. The second $314K can be in pledges. It’s a steep hill to climb, but together we can do this. Our ski racing community is strong, resolved, and stands together in solidarity for all of our programs. We are a sport like no other, and we have an opportunity to be better. By saving the UAA Ski Team, we are turning the tide. We show that institutions cannot cut or gut programs. DONATE TODAY...

It's chilly outside! Are you ready for winter? GNSC volunteers are: We're ensuring our trails are clear for snowpack, equipment is set to groom, and the skis are waxed. GNSC is fundraising for a Narrow Gauge Groomer! Did you know? We're collaborating with other volunteers in Girdwood! Local trail steward Ben Kohler is the brain behind a new Snow Dog trail groomer. Utilizing this machine will make our small trails in Girdwood ideal for classic skiing, walking, and biking. Ben has done the research and brought this concept to the Girdwood Trails Committee and our Girdwood Nordic Ski Club. He received overwhelming support from both and we are fundraising for a Snow Dog. The following two foot wide trails will be smoothed out this year: Beaver Pond Trail, lower Iditarod National Historic Trail Loop, and the Bird/Gird Trail to the first rest stop. The new groomer costs about $5,250 and will be purchased by GNSC. It is easy to donate when you sign up for your 20-21 Membership under an additional line for "Donations." We will contribute additional donations toward the Snow Dog machine and supplies. Support Narrow Gauge Grooming by donating while you become a member on our membership form or visit our FB page to donate directly! Gird your loins, it’s time for the Girdwood Marathon!! This is probably the only good news of 2020 so savor it. Choose the full 26.2 mile marathon or 13.1 mile half-marathon. The race starts and ends in the idyllic, forested village of Girdwood. The course takes you through town, along the Bird to Gird trail, into the mountains rich with autumn colors, and views of snow-dusted peaks. It’s probably going to rain or hail or both since it’s Girdwood, after all. Aid stations? No. This is a BYOBS race (Bring Your Own Bear Spray), along with water and a smile.   We will start the race in waves (COVID) and with waves. Covid says, “Race is limited to a maximum of 30 racers for the Marathon, maximum of 30 for the half.”  Thank you! October 3rd at 9am Meet at the Alyeska Daylodge. SIGN UP HERE ...
